IPS METHOD
IPS works to increase public health and safety by helping communities create sustainable change through Environmental Prevention system design, knowledge transfer, and project planning and implementation. Environmental Prevention is an approach that identifies and works to change the elements within the environment of a community that support or condone unhealthy or unsafe decisions. It focuses on community systems as opposed to individuals, and is based on the fact that individuals do not make decisions regarding their health and safety solely on the basis of personal characteristics. IPS has packaged our planning and implementation process, the associated tools, and other system design considerations into a comprehensive approach we call the IPS METHOD.
The IPS METHOD is a proven approach, based on IPS’ 20+ years of hands-on experience and the invaluable work of leading researchers in the environmental prevention field.  IPS did not invent most of the components or carry out the research.  We put it all together in a successful implementation model that works in all communities.  The IPS METHOD can be applied anywhere, but it does not assume that all communities are the same.  All decisions are made locally.   It is entirely culturally sensitive.

The IPS METHOD includes both the multi-component planning and implementation model as well as guidance on design considerations for building a supporting environmental prevention system to ensure sustainability. Key system components typically include integrated training and technical assistance, on-going measurements, a process for creating or choosing qualified staffing, and other considerations.
