Kyra Merryman

Community/Youth Organizer

“I work in Public Health to learn how to effectively impact systems that disrupt communities by listening to those individuals at the heart of this change.”

Kyra Merryman (they/them) is a Youth/Community Organizer for the East County Youth Coalition, a program that empowers youth with the knowledge and skills to be leaders of change in their communities on preventive strategies for alcohol and other drugs. Kyra graduated from UC San Diego with a double major in Public Health and Sociocultural Anthropology. They have an extensive history in the education sector, working directly with youth to encourage them to excel in their studies and in their life. Their work has transformed into blending their two passions for Public Health and education in the ECYC. Kyra remains an active student in life, always learning more about the changes we can make within the social systems that marginalize certain communities and create adverse health effects. Outside of their work at IPS, Kyra enjoys swimming in the ocean, listening to podcasts, and watching movies with their friends!
