South Bay Youth 4 Change (SBY4C)
South Bay Youth 4 Change (SBY4C) was founded in 2007 by four students dedicated to making a positive impact in their community. The “4” in the organization’s name honors these founding members and their vision for youth-led change.
Today, SBY4C collaborates with students from the Montgomery High School Leadership Club and the San Ysidro High School SAPE Club. Both groups meet weekly at their respective campuses and work alongside community partners, such as Friday Night Live, to participate in leadership development and prevention-focused training sessions. They identify local issues, develop projects, and create meaningful change throughout the South Bay region.
Students involved with SBY4C earn community service hours while engaging in hands-on initiatives, including environmental assessments, retailer education on underage alcohol sales, vaping prevention efforts, community and park cleanups, and participation in local presentations and forums. These experiences help students strengthen their leadership, teamwork, and communication skills while promoting healthy, substance-free lifestyles.
Education and prevention are at the core of SBY4C’s mission. Through peer-led presentations, social media outreach, and community events, members educate their peers and the broader community about the risks associated with alcohol, tobacco, and vaping. The organization also prioritizes mental health awareness, teaching the importance of emotional wellness, positive coping strategies, and fostering supportive environments to build safe and thriving communities.
SBY4C empowers young people to recognize the impact of their voices and their ability to drive positive change. Participants have opportunities to design and lead Community Improvement Projects that address public health issues and contribute to lasting community well-being.
