Institute for Public Strategies Awarded Three New Grants to Expand Outreach and Sustain Youth Access Across Southern California

February 6, 2026/in Press Release/by IPS

The Institute for Public Strategies (IPS) announced today it has been awarded three new grants to support its work across Los Angeles County and East County San Diego. The funding advances IPS’s prevention efforts by strengthening outreach and sustaining youth access to outdoor and cultural experiences.

These investments reflect continued confidence in IPS’s community-driven, prevention-focused approach and support both immediate outreach needs and long-term program continuity.

Expanding Community Outreach and Enrollment in Los Angeles County

IPS has been awarded $150,000 through the California State Office of Community Partnerships and Strategic Communications (OCPSC) to support community-based outreach and enrollment assistance in Los Angeles County. Through this initiative, IPS will work directly with community members to connect them to priority public service programs, helping reduce barriers to access and prevent equity gaps in enrollment.

This work builds on IPS’s experience delivering culturally responsive outreach and enrollment support grounded in trusted community relationships.

Sustaining Youth Community Access Programming in East County San Diego

IPS also received $100,000 from the Grossmont Health District and $39,792 through the Route to Parks grant program. This sustained support ensures that youth and families in East County San Diego continue to have access to safe, inclusive outdoor and cultural experiences that promote physical health, mental well-being, and community connection.

“This funding helps us meet urgent needs in the community while continuing the long-term work we’re committed to,” said Brenda Simmons, Chief Executive Officer of IPS. “From helping families figure out how to access public services to making sure young people can stay connected to outdoor spaces, this support shows confidence in IPS and the community-based prevention work we do every day.”

“Across regions, these investments strengthen our ability to meet communities where they are,” said Eric Collins, Chief Programs Officer. “They support outreach that reduces barriers today and programs that create lasting opportunities for young people and families.”

IPS works alongside communities to build power, challenge systems of inequity, protect health, and improve quality of life. IPS envisions safe, secure, vibrant, and healthy communities where everyone can thrive.
